class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1487\" data-end=\"1915\">The use of opsins to restore vision is part of a next-generation platform called <strong data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1584\">optogenetics<\/strong>, which combines <strong data-start=\"1601\" data-end=\"1673\">biotechnology, molecular genetics, gene therapy, and pharmacosurgery<\/strong>. The U.S.-based biotech company <strong data-start=\"1706\" data-end=\"1732\">Nanoscope Therapeutics<\/strong> has developed a high-performance multi-characteristic opsin called <strong data-start=\"1800\" data-end=\"1811\">MCO-010<\/strong>, tested in multiple clinical trials involving patients with retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2367af0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2367af0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1917\" data-end=\"2155\">Therapy with MCO-010 involves the creation of <strong data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"2001\">therapeutic DNA encoding the opsin<\/strong>, packaging the DNA molecules into <strong data-start=\"2036\" data-end=\"2070\">proprietary AAV2 viral vectors<\/strong>, and delivering them into the patient\u2019s eye via a <strong data-start=\"2121\" data-end=\"2154\">single intravitreal injection<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eabae51 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eabae51\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2157\" data-end=\"2598\">Once inside the eye, the viral vectors reach the bipolar cells and release the therapeutic DNA, enabling the cells to produce multiple copies of MCO-010.
