Unfortunately, this measure has not stopped the creation of countless new videos and products that promise to lighten eye color\u2014from black to brown, or brown to green or blue.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2f4b65c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2f4b65c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"1106\">These videos and advertisements often feature striking \u201cbefore and after\u201d images, but they provide <strong data-start=\"999\" data-end=\"1022\">vague or no details<\/strong> on how the drops work and completely <strong data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1105\">omit any mention of possible side effects<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2d93750 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2d93750\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1463\">The main concern, as highlighted in a recent <strong data-start=\"1153\" data-end=\"1174\">AAO press release<\/strong>, is that these eye drops are <strong data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1231\">not approved by the FDA<\/strong> (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), and the claim that they can lighten eye color <strong data-start=\"1315\" data-end=\"1342\">has no scientific basis<\/strong>. There are <strong data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1375\">no clinical tests<\/strong> supporting their effectiveness, and\u2014more importantly\u2014<strong data-start=\"1429\" data-end=\"1462\">no data proving they are safe<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e1f7341 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e1f7341\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1927\">In theory, these drops would work by <strong data-start=\"1502\" data-end=\"1548\">reducing the amount of melanin in the iris<\/strong>, but none of the listed ingredients are known to have this effect. Moreover, even assuming the drops could reduce melanin in the eye, <strong data-start=\"1683\" data-end=\"1781\">it is unknown whether the effect would be confined to the iris or could also affect the retina<\/strong>, where melanin plays a crucial role in <strong data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"1850\">protecting photoreceptors<\/strong>\u2014the delicate nerve cells responsible for vision\u2014from harmful light exposure.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e4eabb8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e4eabb8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"2234\">A <strong data-start=\"1931\" data-end=\"1967\">reduction of melanin in the iris<\/strong> could lead to <strong data-start=\"1982\" data-end=\"2018\">light sensitivity or photophobia<\/strong>, and reduced protection for the <strong data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2059\">lens<\/strong> from ultraviolet radiation. Meanwhile, <strong data-start=\"2099\" data-end=\"2139\">a reduction of melanin in the retina<\/strong> could facilitate the onset of diseases that damage photoreceptors, leading to <strong data-start=\"2218\" data-end=\"2233\">vision loss<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-1f7bb7c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"1f7bb7c\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-403d1f4\" data-id=\"403d1f4\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6e554e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6e554e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2236\" data-end=\"2527\">Another major concern is the <strong data-start=\"2265\" data-end=\"2287\">lack of regulation<\/strong>: these products are made by companies <strong data-start=\"2326\" data-end=\"2353\">not subject to controls<\/strong> regarding product quality, manufacturing sterility, and the absence of chemical or biological contaminants. This poses a serious <strong data-start=\"2483\" data-end=\"2526\">risk of eye infections and inflammation<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-44d1b15 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"44d1b15\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2529\" data-end=\"2804\">According to product instructions, these eye color-changing drops should be applied <strong data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2687\">at least twice daily for a prolonged period\u2014ranging from 3 to 7 months<\/strong>.
